NAPS Calls for Sack of Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Over Gross Incompetence and Failed Leadership

 Press Release

To: Dr. Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy Must Go.

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), expresses deep disappointment with your poor performance as Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

For over a year, your office has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerian youths and students, and today, we openly declare our rejection of your leadership.

Our major concerns are clear:

1. Failure to Secure Citizens’ Data

Under your watch, Nigerians’ sensitive personal information such as NIN, BVN, passports, driver’s licenses and more were carelessly exposed and even sold online for as little as ₦200. This is a direct betrayal of public trust and shows gross failure in protecting citizens’ digital identities.

2. Collapse of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Program

What was announced as a beacon of hope for Nigerian youths has turned into disappointment. Training partners have complained of delayed payments, students dropped out in large numbers, and in states like Katsina, only 400 out of 1,400 participants completed the first cohort. This is a failure of planning and leadership.

3. Disconnected Leadership

You came into office with high expectations, but today, you are described as inaccessible, disconnected, and removed from the very community you once championed. Your communication to the public lacks impact, and your policies are not resonating with the people you are meant to serve.

For these reasons, we the students of Nigerian Polytechnics state clearly that we have lost confidence in your leadership.

NAPS will not fold its arms while the future of our digital economy is mismanaged. We are prepared to mobilize nationwide protests until the Federal Government listens to our call for your removal and replaces you with someone who has the capacity, sincerity, and courage to lead Nigeria’s digital transformation.

As a result this, the NAPS Senate has resolved to embark on a mother of all protest to call for the sack of the honorable minister. We believe that confrontation is not our preferred course of action, but we are left with no option given the circumstances. The planned protest is scheduled to take place at strategic locations, and we hope that this notice will prompt the necessary actions to address the issues at hand.

However, we also remain open to constructive dialogue and are willing to engage in meaningful discussions to resolve the issues at hand.

This is not politics. This is accountability. This is the voice of Nigerian students demanding responsible leadership.

Signed,

Sen. Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide

President of the senate, National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)

Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim

Clerk of the senate

National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)
